It's still SNOWING!!
Here's an interesting link a friend sent me this morning. It called Dining Out for Life. Go to the website and choose a city. Get the date, then get a date and go out to dinner. A portion of the proceeds will then go to HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other life challenaging diseases.
All you have to do is eat dinner. So grab a friend or better yet, a group of friends and have dinner out.
Snow Snow and yes, more SNOW
The weatherguy says it won't stop until later this evening. Looks like it may be a long weekend for the kids.
While at Borders yesterday I got to glance through the newest issue of the British knitting magazine "Knitting". Once again it's chock full of good articles and some rather cute spring/summer knitting. I've asked my husband to pick me up a copy. It's changing to a monthly format, I really hope this doesn't kill the content. I'll write a better review when I've had a chance to sit down with it and a hot cuppa tea.
Still working on a few small projects. Can't tell you about them just yet. The big project I'm working on is really giving me a tough time. It's my own website where I'll be posting knitting classes, patterns for sale, and a few freebies as well. I'll also have locations of local yarn shops with reviews of the shops. I'm also hoping to put in reviews of other knitting and fibery goodness.
Speaking of which, I need to get back on track. So keep those kneedles clickin' -- with weather like this you just can't have too many pair of mittens!

The perks of having a parent in the Military. The number of schools that I've attended is pretty extensive as well. But absolutly no regrets! Except that I really don't have a school reunion to go to.
The weatherguy this weekend had been calling for some really nasty stuff to fly over night. So my dad drove all the way up here yesterday to bring my daughter back her sled which she had left at his house. He was sure that we were going to hit hard and that she would miss having it. So of course since we were ready -- no snow. In fact it's now 40+ degrees outside and sunny.
My Secret Pal totally ROCKS!! Came home from work in Saturday to another package!! This time was a lovely card with Celtic music CDs. She's so wonderful!
I've been putting together another package to send to my Secret Pal. I do hope she likes it as well as I've been loving mine. I had thought being a Secret Pal and putting together packages would be easy but it's not! I find myself stepping back and really looking at what I'm sending.
Well, I need to do some writing. I owe some copy to my cousin who has been building a website for me. This is really hard. Talking about myself is never something I've really been comfortable doing -- ask me about knitting! or my kids! or how to cook/prepare something -- no problem but myself. YIKES!
I'm also working on a better newsletter for the Guild that I belong to. This is fun writing!
So folks, until next time keep those kneedles clickin'!

So I'm still working on my top from IK. I've finished the sleeve and am going to cast on the next. Then I'll have the body to do. I know most people start with the body and then do the sleeve thing, but I used the first sleeve as my swatch to check for gauge. When I figured out that it worked I went on ahead.
I've joined the Knit One Read Too Group. I need a bit of a push to read more these days. Not that I don't read, just if it's outside of knitting I really haven't touched it.

la la la la la la
One more time. My first entry today was lost forever by the computer.
I have a couple of things to share with you all today. One is a magazine review, one is a shop opening, and one is a yarn brag.
The magazine du jour is the Spring 2005 issue of Interweave Knits. I really love this magazine and this issue has a lot of really interesting stuff. Of course I don’t expect you to take my word for it, go check it out for yourself.
I’m working on a top from this issue. No, I’m not using the recommended yarn it’s not in my stash. The yarn I am using is Elsebeth Lavold Silky Tweed. This is a great yarn and I’ve been looking for a pattern that suited me without having to sit down and crunch the numbers myself. The gauge of the Silky Tweed fits perfectly and I’m on my way to a new Spring/Fall top….might even finish in time for Easter. I’ll keep you posted.
Oh, the top is Wear-Everywhere Pullover by Lana Hames. And it’s knit without seams! YEAH!!
Other doable patterns are:
1) Fitted Dolman by Annie Modesitt. You gotta love this woman’s work. She’s brilliant in my opinion.
2) Galway Guy by Deborah Newton (does the model come with? Definitely not an eyestrain there!)
3) Cable-Eight Top by Joyce Wu. This top is done in Pakucho Organic Peruvian Cotton of which there is also an interesting article about. Apparently this cotton plant was almost extinct and is now making it’s glorious comeback. If I get my mitts on some I’ll let you know how it is.
There is an article about the brioche stitch, which is something I would love to learn. I’m not sure about the top presented but the style is most appealing. Maybe I can get Lorraine to teach a Saturday workshop on this technique.
There are two patterns in this issue that seriously need to be “put on the shelf” already! Ponchos and caplets are OVER! Done. Fini! Overdone. Stop wasting paper. And a knitted skirt? Please!
Onward…..
The most brilliant Maria has opened another yarn, this time in Georgetown. This is a really smart move because very soon our fair city will be swarming with tourists for the annual Cherry blossom Festivities. In fact the Cherry Blossom Parade kicks off the tourist season for Washington DC. The new shop’s address is:
Stitch DC
1071 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, DC 20007
telephone: 202-333-KNIT
Hours for both shops are Monday-Friday 11 am - 7 pm: Saturday: 11am -7pm:Sunday: Noon to 5 pm Not to cause any confusion – They are OPEN seven days a week including SUNDAY!
Stitch DC
731 8th St Street SE, Washington, DC 20003
telephone: 202-544-8900
This is in Georgetown, and however now accessible by Metro but you can take the Metro and then a bus to get there. Note here: The DC Bus service is pretty reliable even on the weekends.
The Yarn, because this is what it’s all about…..
This past week in the Shop one of my favorite ladies brought in her yarn from her own sheep. It is a truly wonderful yarn with a lovely sheen and the yardage runs between 240 – 250 yards. It’s undyed, it’s not scratchy and damn it it’s going quick. For the time being we’re calling it “Judy’s Yarn” cause she hasn’t given it a name. So if you want to check it out as well, get down there now. You won’t be sorry. Judy will be bringing in more as she gets it back from the Mill.
No, I can’t post a photo cause I haven’t figured that out yet. Hey, look at the side bar. I figured out how to add a couple of buttons.
Now leave. Go knit something wonderful!

Temporary Site
Friday (last Friday) the mail carrier beeped for me. I live up on a hill and don't have a driveway. The new mail person hasn't figured out that we share a driveway with my neighbor. Anyway…..She beeps me so I'll come the downstairs. In descending the steps there is a glow coming from the truck and my glasses start to change to their sun mode. As I get closer to the truck they get darker as the glow gets brighter. Mz Carrier says "I have a package for you but it doesn't have a return address, do you want to decline it?" Are you kidding? NO WAY! I wanna open it.
So while explaining about the SP4 she brightens and whips out her opener and we both check out the box. WOW!!
Let me say here, I may be taking on a new knitting student. Yep, Mz. Carrier has been wanting to learn and now hearing about the fun to be had she is now hooked.
What? You want to know what was in the box? It is totally wonderful. Inside is a tube of Burt's Bee Lip balm; Lindt Lindor Truffles - in my favorite DARK CHOCOLATE, three balls of this really neat cotton tape. The color of this yarn is gradual shadings from a blue/green to almost white or grey. I see a mini version of the Clapotis possibly or other lacey spring summer scarf. Very lovely. There is also two balls of a Alpaka in silver. This is wonderfully soft and each ball is 110 yards. I forsee some wrist warmers just for me!
That's not all! There is a copy of "Zen and the Art of Knitting" by Bernadette Murphy; a magnetic notepad that says "A Stitch in Time Saves Nine" (a Mary Engelbreit design) and very cute.
AND Last but certainly not least there is a beautiful bag with butterflies on it that will be just perfect for my knitting (of course.) Today is really bright outside so I'm going to go take a pictures of my goodies to share and will then post a link.
To my Secret Pal: Thank you so much. I love my gift and will think of you fondly as I read and nibble chocolate. I apologize for taking so long to thank you. This morning I did finally find an email from you only AOL had thrown it into the spam folder because it's been doing the very opposite of what it's supposed to be doing lately.
