Those are dressmakers pins, and yes that is a regular table toothpick holding the live stitches whilst it blocks. Care to take a guess at what it will soon become? I'll throw in a lovely something or other for the closest guess. I'll give you another clue tomorrow, and pick a winner (if there are any participants) on Friday.

Right now it looks like an old-timey ladies' collar, but I know you're a modern girl so it could be one of those decorative collars for a champagne bottle :-).
I enjoyed seeing your mittens. I especially like the "argyle" looking ones that your made last year. The Folk knitting in Estonia is on my wish list.
Could it be a lace ring to dress up a boring plain Xmas ornament?
